This Week at Immanuel (9-23-2012)

Pastor John will continue a series of messages from the gospel of Mark. This Sunday’s text is Mark 1:6-13, the story of Jesus baptism, the descent of the Spirit and his time in the wilderness. The wilderness for Mark is a place of both danger and protection; a place where we are tempted and challenged and frustrated but also the place where the protection of God is all around us. We all live in that kind of “real world reality.” Mark tells us that Jesus faced what we all face every day, the “dangers, toils and snares…” mentioned in our favorite hymn, Amazing Grace. No matter what challenge is staring us in the face, we can be assured that Jesus, our risen Lord, has been there and knows what we are going through. That means a lot to me and I hope the same is true for you.
